Architectural competition for the renovation and extension of the Puppet Theatre in Opole, Poland

| The attepmpt was to wall off the theatre space from the street with a new, light and transparent courtain wall. It's vertical character is obtained by long and narrow glass plates joined uder a random angle to suggests a theatrical drapery. The expansion area is in a linear order - beginning with transparent and bright open space and turning into dark, enclosed auditorium. The proposed extension - thanks to its linear structure, openness and clarity - emphesizes the historical buildings line. Elastic and friendly interior space serves both, child audience and actors, adapts to different needs and functions either as education, exhibition or recreation space. The openspace of the last floor allows the enlargement of the dressing rooms when needed for guest performers whereas daily functions as actors' lounge. |
