The art of today knows no limits. Its distinguishing mark is the need of experimenting and exceeding stereotypes and established canons - - artistic, mental, psychological, social or political. To exist, art needs those limits to be exceeded.
The design of Contemporary Museum Wroclaw is an attempt to reflect this rule in space. A game of openings and closings - borders and lack of ones - define the structure of CMW. the museum space has been determined by masses and free spaces between them. The arrangement of towers and squares forms a dynamic structure, generates interaction between art and/or its creator and recipient, between museum and the city, between public space and space of creation and exhibition.
CMW is an untypical public space. The structure oscillates between a sculpture and a building; the form of open town labyrinth initiates new quality of public space in Wroclaw. Small squares between towers encourage free arrangement, social or artistic activity, rest, informal actions, happenings and video projections, site-specific art, light and sound installations. The design of CMW forms space for people and art - democratic, flexible and active, focused on contemporary art, consolidated around social relations. Extensive spatial program has been divided between free-standing tower units and underground section connecting all towers.
Eight narrow buildings standing on the plot form seven irregular squares.
