The new building of Museum of Polish History appears in a complicated historical neighbourhood as a connecting and corrective
element. The museum building overflows under ground level, hangs over the £azienkowska Route and grows into the Wis³a scarp.
It is not a narrow bridge yet a broad plateau, intersected with footpaths connecting the existing pedestrian routes
of the district and protecting from the traffic fumes and noise. The neutral building does not expose the outside facades. Its function has been taken over by the inner facades set on both sides of the route. The design does not avoid the problem of a close distance to the noisy route, it opens up to it with its biggest glazing. The presence of the neverending motor traffic contemporizes the project and converts it into a living organism where changes
can be noticed on a daily basis. The exterior of the museum flanks the historic plaza and - owing to its occupants - brings the whole urban
complex back to life.
