BACK
The designed object continues the urban plan started in the 70's which was a cultural cluster consisting of the Jan Kochanowski Theatre and the Gallery of Fine Arts. The downtown plot is an important part of the city and a part of a well-trodden route. The new building honours the site tradition, history and mostly - the height and building line that has been decided 40 years ago. The façade materials can also be found nearby. The dark net on the lower stories is the same as on the gallery main building entry façade and the vertical aluminium lamellas are taken from the theatre's building volume. The new wing fulfills the complex and generates an inner walkway that has been used for years but never got a proper closing and form. Now, it becomes a way through a garden of arts, inviting the pedestrians to visit the gallery and sit in it's outside café.
